Anesthesia In Our Office
Pain, fear, and anxiety in dentistry are significant factors that need to be alleviated to carry out comfortable procedures for patients. Office-based anesthesia has been a part of the training, practice and history of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery for over 90 years. Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons are required to undergo intense general anesthesia training in a hospital-based residency training program. They work alongside anesthesiology residents and are trained by anesthesiologists.
When it comes to our practice, of over 30 years, we pride ourselves with offering multiple anesthetic options based upon the patient’s needs. Our focus is always on selecting an anesthetic that maximizes patient comfort, while maintaining the highest regard for safety.
Our office practices the anesthesia team model in which the oral surgeon, certified sedation nurses, and our specially trained assistants carry out the administration of the anesthetic, perform airway monitoring and assist with the surgical procedure. Our surgeons and nurses are all ACLS/BLS certified on an annual basis. Our surgical assistants are DAANCE (Dental Anesthesia Assistant National Certifying Exam) certified ensuring the highest quality of care is always provided to our patients. We routinely run office-based simulations on the complications associated with office-based anesthesia so all members of our team provide the safest approach possible for each surgical procedure.
The level of sedation and technique utilized by Dr. Kalant & Dr. Pink depends on the proposed surgery, as well as, the apprehension, age, and health of the patient. These anesthesia options are:
- Minimal Sedation / Anxiolysis via Nitrous Oxide or Oral Sedatives
- Moderate and Deep Sedation via intravenous sedatives and general anesthetics
- General Anesthesia with a secured airway via intravenous and inhalation anesthetics
We work closely with a CRNA, as well as, a Mobile Anesthesia group for larger cases to avoid the added costs of an outside surgery center. The Physician Anesthesiologists we partner with are Board Certified.
